What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to meet, for you to share a little about what has brought you to counselling, and for me to explain how I work. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with. We will also discuss what you are hoping to get from our work together.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person. Some people benefit from a short course of six to twelve sessions, while others prefer longer-term, open-ended work. We will review our progress regularly and you are always free to end or pause at any time.

Is everything I say confidential?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Everything you share is held in strict confidence. The only exceptions are if I have serious concerns about your safety or the safety of others, in which case I may need to break confidentiality, but I would always aim to discuss this with you first wherever possible.

Do you offer online sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I offer sessions both in person in Coventry and online via a secure video platform. Many clients find online sessions just as effective and appreciate the flexibility they offer.

Question 5

What is the difference between counselling and therapy?

Accepted Answer

The terms are often used interchangeably. In practice, counselling tends to focus on specific issues or life events, while therapy may explore deeper patterns over a longer period. I offer both, and we will find an approach that suits your needs.

Question 6

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Accepted Answer

No. You can contact me directly to arrange an initial consultation. You do not need a GP referral to access private counselling.

Question 7

What if I need to cancel a session?

Accepted Answer

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full rate. I understand that life can be unpredictable and will always try to be flexible where possible.
